Manchester United Set to Sign German Forward Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich

The Women's Super League club are finalising sealing the deal for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Major Acquisition for United

The forward, with half a year remaining on her deal, has been a consistent goalscorer for her club and the national team. Having netted over 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. Her arrival is viewed as a major signing for the Women’s Super League side.

Her exit from Munich has been anticipated after she appeared to be fighting back tears while applauding the club's supporters after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

Reports in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its top strikers. Per reports, all the paperwork for the transfer have now been completed.

Consistent Goalscoring to Strengthen United's Attack

The 28-year-old’s arrival should represent a significant boost to the team's forward line. She has been highly consistent in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.

• Over seven consecutive seasons, including the last term, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
• She won the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Building Steam at Carrington

Securing Schüller’s signature comes at a time when United seem to be building positive momentum.

Their recent on-pitch successes feature securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the winter break has brought further activity:

1. The acquisition of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
2. The new deal for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since arriving in 2023.

On Miyazawa’s extension, a senior figure stated: “She has become a vital component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability enables her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”
