Federal Court Orders Freedom of Abrego Garcia from Immigration Custody

A court has ordered the immediate release of Kilmar Abrego Garcia from immigration custody, concluding his continued detainment lacks legal authority.

"Since Abrego Garcia's release after erroneous detention in El Salvador, he has been taken back into custody, again without legal justification," the judge wrote in her ruling.

The situation stems from a mistaken deportation to El Salvador in March, which the government later acknowledged was an error. After his repatriation to the United States to answer alien smuggling charges, he was detained in immigration detention.

In her decision, the judge noted that the authorities lacks a valid removal order, which prevents them from deporting Mr. Abrego Garcia "for now."
